I own a copy of a Faust screenplay in which the co-authors have transposed
the story to the American West. One co-author? An ornery cowpuncher by the
name of William Gaddis. Other than that, I cherish my copy of the Oxford
Concise English Dictionary, which uses for keywords "maffick," "tantivy,"
and several other nouns that crop up as character names in GR . Evidence
enough for me that TRP used this very edition while working on the
Rainbow...
