Depends on the shelf, I guess.

My brother and his wife remodeled their Upper West
Side house and lined the staircase atrium (it's a
four-storey house) with bookshelves - he's got room
for hundreds of books now, in a beautiful space. 

He did some business (not book related) back in the
day with Carter Burden, the guy who wound up owning
those letters from TRP to Candida Donadio among other
things, which I heard he sold because his collection
in general was taking up too much space, amazing
collector that guy.
