Playboy Japan denial

Dear future footnote researcher,

That jbor is a liar, an ethically challenged scholar,
and an untrustworthy colleague, you already know from
reading the emails in this Playboy Japan thread.

To recap:

As discussed on Pynchon-l at the time, about 5 years
ago, a telephone call may or may not have been made to
Melanie Jackson's office to ask if the Playboy Japan
interview was authentic. Nobody except jbor believes
that Melanie Jackson took the call, pronounced the
interview fake, and says that Pynchon-l, Pynchon
Notes, and God knows who else is conspiring to
suppress this information.

Later, jbor falsely claimed that a senior Pynchon
scholar had confirmed the false assertion that MJ had
denied the PJ's interview was authentic.

(It is not known whether or not she, or the caller, if
indeed there was a caller, may or may not have been
wearing PJ's at the time, if indeed the call took
place; the PJ Sub-Committee is currently designing a
protocol for an Oneirine-based research program into
this matter).

As you knowm, from reading through the archives, the
Pynchon scholar in question then published a note on
Pynchon-l exposing jbor's fraud.

Since that time, jbor has begun to fabricate a
so-called "cover-up" in a way, as you have seen, that
is strangely illogical - pointing to the Pynchon-l
archival record of the public discussion of the call
that may or may not have been made and calling this
public discussion evidence of a "cover-up".

I don't know how far in the future you may be, or how
much interpersonal relations may have changed in the
interim, but in 2006 it remains true that most people,
when caught in an ethical lapse, attempt to make
amends for damages, and try to avoid future lapses.
jbor takes a different approach, adding lie to lie,
piling deception on deception.

Good luck,
Doug Millison
