hmm; if anything Vineland is more accessible on its surface, yet the sense of excitement glimmering behind Gravity's Rainbow's mysteries is more muted in Vineland; I wouldn't say completely missing, but maybe easier to miss?  

to try to take a statement like that, and find textual evidence for why I feel that way -- I might be able to do it, but currently not in a timely manner.  (but if I keep reading p-list...)
