Are you saying the grownups at first think of the  Chums as just  
story book characters but after a certain amount of interaction with  
them realize  that both parties have equal ontological status?

That would be quite a clever thing to have happen and sort of like  
the Schwartzcommando business.. We should watch for indications of this.

I say "grownups" but has it been noticed or remarked upon by others  
how often one of the non-Chum characters will be referred to as  
"young" Mr. or "young" Miss So and So?  Don't know if I'm  
exaggerating. But anyway the normal presumption would be that  The  
junior Traverses  and  the  principal women in the story are fully  
functioning adults.  Is something  otherwise possibly being  
suggested? It's a thought.
