I posted some time ago about a review of AtD in the Argentinian magazine N.
There is no electronic version of the article, but there are altruistic
pynchonistas. The full text can be read here:

'Borges played a joke on realism by imagining a map of China as big as
China. The map of Against the Day is as fluid and unstable as the world in
those years, as if the slow and obsolete cartographic machine of the
historical novel had to accelerate to be able to follow runaway historic
time that spares nothing. Even clouds are not equal, swept by invisible
electromagnetic waves which transport across the sky the dull and
disquieting murmur of nameless interests. Those are the years in which
science and labour released unknown energies, in which technological
progress was a pure promise, in which electric light spreading throught the
planet awoke dreams of a better future.'

(sounds much better in Spanish)

There is also a bit of a Marxist twist to it, not sure how ironic, as the
author states that Pynchon's books serve to give a novelistic form to The
Capital.

'Sergei Eisenstein and Jean Luc Godard played with the idea of adapting The
Capital for the screen; Pynchon turns it into a novel...'

'Sergei Eisenstein y Jean Luc Godard coquetearon con la idea de filmar El
Capital; Pynchon lo viene novelando...'
