China Mieville audio interview (even more NP than parent post)

eckshually, he's pretty cool...even his clean head is
pretty awe-inspiring...

I flat loved that part of the trilogy which I read.
Perdido Street Station is a wonderful read.

If there is something like a Moorcock "school" then China
Mieville is most likely at least an adjunct prof in it...

I'd suggest that Pynchon has at least emeritus standing at
that school as well, making the whole thread not so OT all.
Even my addition, Sue Townsend, approaches the same warp
and weft of social consciousness from a different angle.
(for example, in one of the Mole books, he inherits a house
with a bunch of books signed by "somebody named Eric Blair")

I haven't yet sat down to write my exegesis of emancipatory
social thought in Tolkien, but though I respect the criticisms
I don't know that I can support Moorcock's thesis with the full
weight (one feather) of my intellect:
for example, the dwarves could easily represent unionists,
and Smaug a typical Plutocrat...
Sauron a militaristic imperialist and the Last Alliance of
Men and Elves, a peaceful socialist regime, only reluctantly
fighting in self-defense...

Now Frederik Pohl, I believe, does weigh in on the right
side of the scales, tho I reserve the right to like him too.
