Robin:

>you tool of the evil empire, you stooge of the fascist state, you-you-you
>pawn of the T.W.I.T.s!!!!

Well, as my dear old Mother always sez:

I'd rather be a pawn of the T.W.I.T.s than have a pin in my twat.

Anyway, you’ve blown my cover! I might as well come clean, then [evil
laughter]: My middle name is Vibe, I’m married to Pierce Inverarity’s
dimwitted granddaughter (I took her for her money and her good connections),
and I’m on the generous payroll of Clive Mossmoon, who’s kept artificially
alive by secret Sino-Jesuit devices.

>Anyway, I still find page 666 of AtD just too perfect.

Dropping the mask for a minute (uh, wait, which mask was that?), I do think
you might just have a case in this specific instance. Pynchon’s certainly
not above the odd little game. I think I’ve already mentioned a couple of
times that the only italicized words on page 380 of GR’s 760 pages are
"right in the middle of it" (page 386 of your 776 page edition, Robin: not
nearly as perfect), and I certainly don’t think that is a coincidence. On
the other hand, fitting those six words into the central page of a typeset
book seems a much easier task than making a whole little beastly scene
coincide with page 666. Still, if anyone is up to the task, it's our man.

>You are, of course, refering to a specific set of physical documents that
>you, yourself, Mr. Andersen---that is your real name, isn't ?---that you
>actually touched, opened, compared pages. Is that what you are talking
>about?
>Speak clearly, we need the jurors to hear you Mr. . . .Andersen!

But of course, m'Lud! I realize that all you poor sheep had to follow the
shifting page numbers (992? 1040? no, 1120! (Just check Penguin’s own
website)) on Amazon and other websites, but I, Mr. "Andersen", had
privileged access to these documents: Faithful Penguin minions sent them to
me in my secret lair, hidden inside a mountain (in fact I have to share
quarters with Phoebus, which is hardly satisfactory: I’ll have to talk to
old Mossmoon about that).

>Anyway, let's start talking about bowl haircuts, shall we?

And how, might I ask, did you find that childhood picture of me? I thought
they were all safely stashed away in Yoyodyne’s secret vaults....
