I've been having this argument across several fora
this morning, and even the concealed carry people seem
generally to concede that. The CC argument assumes
"rational" actors, and assumes "rationality" to
include the avoidance of pain/injury/death. VA Tech
et al. are being written off as exceptional cases.
For better or worse, though, I tend not to give up
pursuit. My argument is, such "irrationality," in
even, say, the temporary, heat of the moment, crime of
passion, whatever sense may prove far more common than
we care to admit, and the proliferation of even
right-thinkin', law-abidin' arms bearers can only
increase the possibilty that tragedy will follow ...
This isn't the global thermonucelar arms race, folks.
Mutually Assured Destruction does NOT always guaranty
no destruction whatsoever. And the arms race is far
from over. Is it a good thing that more and more
nations might be carrying and concealing them? No ...
