An opinion from old non-gun-toting Yurrup. The whole gun control issue is 
controversial and it differs from state to state as far as I know. When I 
watched news bulletins I thought: OK, it is allowed to sell guns, but maybe 
the whole procedure could be at least more complicated, you can't buy a 
driving licence in a shop as easily as a gun, can you? This Sho had a 
psychiatric consultation of sorts, then why wasn't his name put in the 
database which the gun store managers could check before selling him 
weapons? Maybe a medical serificate from a psychiatrist could be obligatory 
before acquiring a gun? Anyway, I remember my shock when I learned that it 
was illegal to carry a pepper spray in Great Britain, that would be another 
extremity to me. Another issue I'm sorta curious about: does Pynchon carry 
any?
