Thanks.
I Googled Elkins and found the Dalkey Archive Press site which
describes (and sells) a number of his novels. From their descriptions
I decided to buy (used from Abebooks at $1 each) *Bad Man* and *The
Macguffin*. I'll see where to go with him from there.
