D. & R.G. - Denver and Rio Grande a narrow gage railroad. It's
trestle crossing the Cimmarron River in Colorado is on the National
Registry of Historic Places.
Denver Post - reflecting it Colorado milieu, it was founded by a
"villainous" bartender and a lottery promoter in 1892. Paralleling
the labor wars were its circulation wars against The Rocky Mountain

Mormon apostles - does this refer to any Mormon missionary, or
specifically to an elder in the LDS church hierarchy? the original
apostles were 12 disciples chosen by Jesus to preach the gospel
Cortez - another city in Southwest Colorado
Derringer - a very small pocket pistol, originated by Henry Deringer
in the early 1800s. One was used by John Wilkes Booth to assassinate
Abraham Lincoln.
