For us (we had undamaged shelter and plenty of food and water), the
very worst part of being stuck in the city after The Thing was not the
lack of utilities, nor the heat, nor the toxic vapors wafting through
the air that made us gag, nor the mobs of looters... the very worst was
the constant aural assault of the helicopters! We joked at the time,
hearing on the radio that people were firing at them -- "wish we had a
rifle".
