Greyhound is high-end bus travel.  Hereabouts the preterite take the
Chinatown bus:

Aside from the days when the hoboes rode the rails (those days are over with
the advent of the sealed cargo container), trains have never really been the
mode of transit for the preterite.  Check the fares.  The cheapest mode has
been and is the old Greyhound bus, disappearing slowly from the landscape as
the less lucrative rural routes are cut.
