Paying no real attention I read Vineland first and was intrigued but
not "hooked." I think I read it because a friend recommended it.
Not too long after that, Mason & Dixon came out and that's the one
that hooked me. So I quickly grabbed Crying of Lot 49 which
immediately became my favorite with Mason & Dixon a very close
second. Finally, a couple summers ago I gave GR a try - it had
been on my shelf for quite a long time but I'd not been able to get
into it. I read it and was mostly confused - it is soo dense and
much is over my head, I guess. (I feel the same way about Ulysses.)
I think a guide or a group might have helped. Finally, Against the
Day is, imo, right up there with M&D, although my heart will always
be with Oed.
