(More advice for Matt Rhodes.)

Just to make sure that you get equal-and-opposite 
advice with regard to not just the permutation 
you'll be choosing, but also its internals -- I 
would strongly recommend that you read all of 
Pynchon's books "without a net," without any 
companions or guides, just naked and on their 
own. Don't take notes, or make character lists. 
If something is confusing, just read on. If it's 
important it will recur.

All the stuff I'm recommending against is fine, 
but since Pynchon doesn't write nearly as much as 
I'd like (I'm greedy) -- it perfect for second 
readings, and all the other readings as we wait 
for the canon's next installment.
