this is a great thread; I just snipped 4 incoherent paragraphs I'd
written to try to describe how I think the "where did things go wrong"
theme mingles with the "upper room/lower room" theme from "entropy",
perhaps leading to the Elect/Preterite duality we see later in GR, and
to the balloonist/landbound duality in ATD?

The Preterite don't usually have time to think much at all;
those in Elect positions criticize the schemes behind their own
actions, while still carrying them out...but all reach Buddha nature
eventually, though it may occupy many lifetimes...
