I'm scanning a few of the 190 splendid photos from Michael Lesy's
_Dreamland_

http://www.amazon.com/Dreamland-America-Dawn-Twentieth-Century/dp/1565843827
/ref=sr_1_1/102-6429506-8009763?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177851314&sr=8-1

and will share by email on request, with the understanding that they are for
your personal use only. The original photos, shot for the Detroit Publishing
Compan in 1898-1910 and sold by the millions as postcards and scenic prints,
are at the Library of Congress and Colorado Historical Society, but I
gratefully acknowledge the IP of Prof. Lesy and The New Press in slecting
and publishing them, and urge you to track down and buy the book. I can't
imagine a better visual companion to AtD.

The scans are all grayscale, typically 1024 to 1600 pixels wide and of
varying height, roughly 200KB each as .JPG files (already compressed, so
ZIPing doesn't help).

1. Colonial [shopping] Arcade, Cleveland, 1908 [for you Walter Benjamin
fans... or Smokefoot's atrium in miniature]

2. Broad Street [lower Manhattan], NYC, 1900

3. [A wooded road in] Belle Isle Park, Detroit, 1900 [not Cleveland, but for
my mind's eye this is where Merle and Erlys meet on p. 67, "miles up some
unexpected road"]

4. Penn Station, NYC, 1910 [gorgeous, Piranesi-ish, empty stage ready for
Dally's arrival]

5. Three crewmen inside gun turrets of three US warships [think Kit
wanderiing the Stupendica]

6. Garden of the Gods, CO [think Towers of Jeshimon]

7. Buena Vista Mine, Cripple Creek, CO

8. Main Street, Tellluride, CO
