just to make the implicit recursion explicit -

In fact, the adversarial stance taken by Webb, for instance,
prompts passion on Vibe's part.  The Nixonian ramblings of
Vibe in his Wall Street stronghold show mawkish sentimentality
intermingled with purity-of-essence ruminations and bloodthirsty
racist paranoia -- gouts indeed of steam ready to scald the miner
for his heart of gold (sorry, couldn't resist)
