A couple days ago I was reading one of the Hollander/Varo posts and half
listening to a local NPR station when Remedios Varo's name caught my ear. It
was an interview with Paul Nahin. He was talking about using Varo's
painting, Harmony, on the cover of _The Story of i_......and I realized
Charles Hollander was wrong. If he had had a third eye, instead of a magic
eye, he would have seen that Pynchon wasn't leading us to Varro through
Varo, but to his own future book! Varo directs us to the future author,
Nahin, who will not only use Varo's painting on a cover of a book about
imaginary numbers, but will also write a book on time travel; both prominent
subjects in a book Pynchon will be writing......

It *is* all connected.
