I took note of every meaningful communication that
required some sort of intermediary for its delivery
and asked questions concerning the relative
weirdness of the mode of delivery for each
communication. Not just oddball stamps, but universal
use of forgeries, copies false of one mode or the other. Some
Spiritual Impressions caught in wax and transmitted via Integroscope.
And truly psychotic communications systems, such as that FM
gas Main that broadcasts "The Slow and the Stupid". These
weird communications systems might reach their collective
peak with the delivery system that enables Yasmeen's pregnancy.
I've also noticed how psychedelic the book is, how it's
jammed with some of the Author's most delirious prose.
On re-reading, I noticed how much easier it was to
follow the plot linkages and chart the family relations.
For what it's worth, I find the final two pages affect me in quite
an emotional fashion and moreso with each additional reading.
Dave Monroe: "here's a little somthing maybe to tide us
over 'til tomorrow, when I think Tim (or whoever) is back at it.
For those of you who (unlike me, despite having had a
running head start, even) have finished the new novel,
and fully cognizant of the potential need for SPOILER
ALERTS (this was a test, this was only a test
...)--albeit not for my sake, first thing I did was,
read the last sentence, I'm not worried about it--what
have you noticed now perhaps rereading these opening
chpaters that you didn't teh first time through? Or,
conversely, what did you notice at the time that
perhaps wasn't quite borne out, or followed up on as
you'd expected it to be? How are you victors
(re)writing history here? Let us know. Thanks ... "
