Ein natürlicher Satellit, auch als Trabant (oder ugs. „Mond“) bezeichnet, ist ein natürlich entstandener Himmelskörper, der einen Planeten, Zwergplaneten oder auch einen Kleinkörper wie einen Planetoiden (Kleinplaneten) umkreist. Der jeweilige Hauptkörper läuft gemeinsam mit dem Satelliten auf einer Umlaufbahn um das Zentralgestirn eines Planetensystems, z. B. im Sonnensystem um die Sonne.

Dem gegenüber stehen die künstlichen Satelliten in der Raumfahrt, welche jedoch gesondert behandelt werden. [...]
