As a child of 8, sitting full lotus on a stoop in South Central
I listened laughing to a pair of teen-aged locals doin' the
dozens to each other, I wanted to join in with yet another
casually flung "N" epithet, but was sadly informed that it was
not in my best interests. Sadly, I say, because they were so
fully engaged and glad to have an audience, any audience.
That little scene has stuck in my mind ever since. I suspect
this might have some bearing on my readings of Pynchon.
I find it hilarious that Nick Bakay is both the voice of Salem
Saberhagen (Sabrina the Teenaged Witch's familiar) and
the host of "In LIving Color's" "Dirty Dozens" and "Wheel of
Dozens" game shows:
"The Dirty Dozens": Stu Dunfy (Nick Bakay) hosts this insult
game that's a cross between "J!" and Concentration [132.6]
"The Dirty Dozens": Another episode of the J!/Concentration
insult game show [132.7]
"Dirty Dozens": The Tournament of Champions "episode"
where the winner squares off against all-time champ Ed
O'Neill! (who appears as himself) [181.4]
The Dirty Dozens board game commercial: Stu Dunfy plugs
the home version of everyone's favorite(?) insult GS. [292.5]
"Wheel of Dozens": A spin of the wheel determines the "dissing"
category, and the winner goes on to the "Lightning Round" to
battle the Mystery Guest! [81.5]

Charles Albert:
"Someone else downstream on
the p-list pointed out the delectable 's'los, hund? sometime back."
I'll cop to that......Waaaaaaayyyyyyy out ahead of the sequence......still feeling kinda stupid about it...
but it was funny...
re: the dozens.....
it would be wrong to limit it's scope to "yo mama"...in my college days I would watch a couple of friends going at it,
both Sidwell grads and sons of doctors, talking about "yo one-eyed, hairy chested Aunt Cleophus" or "esteban da bitchboy"...
it was fast, funny and utterly beyond the abilities of mere mortals....
love,
cfa

I wouldn't call "The Dozens" the subset here, it's the mainline,
the very point of this passage. Someone else downstream on
the p-list pointed out the delectable 's'los, hund? sometime back.
(Translation: 's'up, dawg?). And the outrage of a quintessential
rascist like Franz Ferdinand trying to pull off that kind of a stunt, in
a place like that. . . . .
