Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Die Leiden des jungen Werther (1774)

I've never read it through because Goethe is absolutely boring. I just
read the parts and excerpts I was forced to by silly teachers and I
did my best to forget everything about it. Never touched any Goethe
since then. When they tried to torture me with that kind of
"literature" I had already read Hesse, Brecht, Salinger, Kerouac and
Jerry Rubin. So what!

Goethe, back then, seemed to me the perfect way to make young people
non-readers.

Sorry 'bout that but that's the way it is. Even today I cannot get into it.

And what is "a gone cat with a right to sing the blues"?
