Unfortunately for subscribers only

If you’ve read anything by Thomas Pynchon, you will already know what to
expect from him. Paranoid theory, bewildering science, historic events,
secret societies, talking animals, song lyrics, jokes and references (as
obscure as you wish), sexual practices (as depraved as you wish) and a
seaman named Bodine – in any number of combinations. It is a sign of how
perplexed even enthusiastic readers of Pynchon become that reviews of his
work are often reduced to precisely this sort of list, with no idea quite
what to make of it.
