Thanks for that wonderful nature trip/history lesson/psychological portrait 
rolled into one, Monte! I don't have much to add - except that I would 
happily sit in the classroom with you in American Odyssey 101 (and try to 
sneak a peek into your notes!). As Sister Rochelle sez to DL in Vineland: 
"Paying attention's the whole point, DL-san" (154). The theme of 'paying 
attention' isn't as explicitly present in AtD as it is in Vineland, but 
those four pages of AtD, and your reading of them, implicitly show us that 
'paying attention' is as important as ever.
