Beautifully said Tore. Don't have much to add to that but in the
sprit of shared spirits, will offer my little toast
Part of the realness of the characters for me is that we know so
much about them from different angles but they remain as unknowable
as a "real" person. I mean that whole inner narrative structure is
both real and made up and constantly interrupted and never finished
anyway ,innit?
Nevertheless I felt an emotional vulnerability and an inner movement
over time for the major characters, theTraverses ,Yashmeen, Dally,
Merle , the Chums, and Cyprian, in particular which made them more
easy for me to identify with than the Characters in V or even GR.
This is more an observation of difference than comparative value .
This affective sympathy combined with the demand for the active
participation of the reader, the constant interruptions of narrative
crosscurrents, digression and commentary that Tore is talking about
makes for a kind of aged Bordeaux , at least to my limited experience
with good wines.
