I'll try...

It's a different way of entertainment and I never felt the urge to
read Stephenson in the original language after I'd read "Zodiac" or to
put more time into the "Cryptonomicon" then I did. Just waited until
the translations came out. With Pynchon it is different, I've read all
of his novels in both languages several times. Reading Pynchon,
hunting the binaries back and forth across the zero, is some other
kind of fun* than reading Stephenson whose "tale" isn't woven so
deeply into the structure of the whole novel as it is in Pynchon.
