Great connections. Think also of AtD's two-hundred-mile Ballkan line of
(potential) annihilation: for the WWI Western Front, at least, the wheeling
of maneuver forces froze into the deadliness of No Man's Land. Even the
best-drilled troops were helpless against a geometric interdiction there, a
line of annihilation from Flanders to Switzerland, with puffs of phosgene
gas and other goodies.

The annihilating *light* hinted in AtD, well... that would need a few
decades more. Not as if P hasn't been dropping clues about that for a long
time.
