I think the answer that you're looking for is that it all shows up in your
email inbox. At times it will fly so fast that it will seem like instant
messaging. You can "reply all" to post, or "reply" to take something
"OFFLIST".
It's considered polite to include "OFFLIST" in the subject heading of
anything that is not "reply all" and therefore available to be read by
everybody.
