Or "The Comfort of Strangers" (Paul Schrader, 1990) from Ian McEwan's short
book. Would also have made an excellent setting for Schnitzler's
Traumnovelle --> Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut."

With all respect to New Orleans, Rio, and other contenders, there's nothing
like Carnevale in Venice for ambiguity. If the context is charm, all those
twisty narrow streets and surprise plaza-ettes and micro-bridges over
mini-canals are very charming. If the context is creep, they're *really*
creepy.
