Keep in mind, too, that Ahab's doubloon becomes a symbol of the sinful motivations for seeking the whale ... the physical embodiment of sin, put forth by the leader and sought by the follower.

Is there a purpose for why the coin image on the cover is split, part on the cover and part of the spine?
