Yes Tore, that's a truly Pynchonian move and in keeping with the Borgesian 
idea of the absence of camels in the Koran expressed below. If there is a 
Snow Lion on the cover seal there is no way Pynchon would depict an actual 
snow lion in the mountains of Tibet. Pynchon is a master of thwarting 
readers' expectations by focusing on marginal stuff and overpassing or 
mentioning in passim what is considered to be the main and indispensible 
part of history or culture. A bit of running ahead, but how much of 
Kovalevskaya and Hilbert do we get from the Gottingen part?



but the
