ATDTDA (1): "as cheerful as a finch"

Lo these many years I've pictured "The Crying of Lot 49" 
as a film, somehow I was seeing (at the very end of the 
movie, as the voice-over passed through the very last 
words of the tale) a slow zoom to white doves descending 
on the branches of trees just outside the windows of the 
oldest building in San Narciso.

Dave Monroe : 
"Passerine's name refers to an order of birds, one that 
'includes the passerine ground-dove' (69), beginning
 the many associations with Penetcost developed in 
this closing scene." (p. 139)"
