did somebody animadvert on the idea already that the Chums arrive on Columbus Day of 1892?  textual evidence (which unfortunately the book is at the house) says something about a tetracentennial which would be more apposite for 1892 than 1893, n'est ce pas?

 Ecclesiastes 2:23
For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
