Synopsis: Dally, Venue NYC, Part One
A quick cut from Vibe HQ finds us with Dally "on a train trip east,"
passing through Chicago, heading for Gnu Yorque Scitti. Dally quickly
learns to keep to herself to avoid the rail infestation of confidence
men, R-girls, purse thieves, and, distressingly worst of them all,
Wild West (or "Cowboy") Poets
Seeing Chicago only now since her first visit to the night-illuminated
White City, she is surprised by the present "darkened daylight"
version. The earlier version's promise to leaven the future has been
supplanted by a "reverse process" causing instead a "condensing into
stone gravity."
Arriving in NYC, Dally winds up in a self-service veggie diner, and
meets Katie (former Ohio hayseed) with who she eventually roommates.
Both girls aspire to the Stage, but Dally is the first to land a part
on the stage of Chinatown's streets in the "Chop Suey Stories"
playing a helpless abductee into White Slavery. Dally is a natural
for the part: "Red hair! Freckles! Audition enough OK!
