According to Chinese tradition, gongs came from the
country of Hsi Yu in the western region, between
Tibet and Burma. The gong is mentioned in writings
during the early sixth century, in the time of
              Emperor Hsuan Wu (AD 500-516).

Don't really know anything about the culture or spiritual traditions of
Hsi Yu, but this is nearabouts Tuva, or am I entirely lost?

In any case, it should be noted that the Chinese Gong Effect ought
to have long lasting reverberations.
