I kinda liked the Steve McQueen version of Tom Horn, who if memory serves,
is ultimately murdered by the folks he was hired by to protect cattle from
the rustlers. i don't believe if there is any mention that he was a
Pinkerton, only a bounty hunter.
if anything, the movie is pretty sympathetic to Horn

He was accompanied from time to time by Tom Horn a Pinkerton assassin,
ex-gunman and bounty hunter who needed no disguise to look pretty bad.
Both of these guys had been involved in the apprehension of Kid Curry and
Siringo helped chase Curry's buddy Butch Cassidy out of the country.
