I recommended Tuchman's _The Proud Tower_ a while back, and its Strauss/arts
chapter (Salome and Ballets Russes and Wedekind and premiere of Le Sacre du
Printemps and all that). It gives a good immersion in the febrile, "what can
we do next to shock the bourgeoisie" mood that underlies La Jarretiere's
[non] death.
