No one really does. The people that claim they do care just assume  
that Pynchon matches what they believe and *feel.* You never read of  
anyone getting all pissed because they believe Pynchon disagrees with  
them. NEVER. It's always about Pynchon being a champion of their pet  
beliefs. And since he presents every viewpoint known to humankind in  
his novels, everyone can prooftext their opinions and claim Pnchon is  
the greatest spokesperson for such.
