Here are some books recommended on the topic:

'Babi Yar' by Anatoli Kuznetsov. A shattering eyewitness account.

'The White Hotel' by D.M. Thomas. Some parts of it are based on Kuznetsov's 
documentary book, but all in all, it is quite a powerful and poetic argument 
with psychoanalisis.

'Les Bienveillantes' by Jonathan Littel. Should be soon translated into 
English. A horrifying novel based on documents. The first part is set in 
Ukraine. It is true, many local residents took part in Jewish pogroms and 
there were Ukrainian military units that participated in the executions.
