Ms. Shields' disillusionment and subsequent seeing through the dogmas
that bind one to a cult are quite common for those that escape cults,
the number one object for cults being control of the beliefs of its
members, a very real and ultimately destructive power dynamic. It is
but one manifestation of the childish desire to relinquish
responsibility to an authority figure that we've discussed here via
Pynchon's writings before. I have no doubt that Mother Teresa's
organization was/is all as described here.
