it's very possible when the idea is brought by Bobby about "you never hear
it coming" and Tony's recollection of same after Bobby is murdered, as the
ending may appear to show. but i think tony only thinks this because he is
holding the automatic rifle that Bobby gave to him as a present while
upstate, thinking about Bobby's death.
it's very ambigious, but i thought it was so well done. those last few
minutes are so weighted with a hovering revelation or just the earth as is.
Pynchonian, anyone?
