I've never seen The Sopranos, but it seems to me that
the ending was merely ambiguous (no matter how clear
its producer says it is, and maybe he's right, y'all
just haven't added up all the clues yet). The
Roseanne finale I think was rather pointed, Newhart I
think was simply being cleverly nostalgic, I forgot
Seinfeld, but I think it was an appropriate, not QUITE
ouroborically tail-biting ending, but I still have no
idea of why St. E ended the way it did ...

(One might also mention ALF here, where what was
intended to be a cliffhanger season finale ended up
being a rather more ominous end to the series (it was
canceled after what became the last episode was shot),
at least until a later one-shot teevee movie resolved
things on a lighter note, but ... meanwhile, both Twin
Peaks and the criminally underrated and overlooked
Space: Above and Beyond WERE left dangling ...)

At any rate, again, without having seen it, The
Sopranos ending sounds merely ambiguous at worst.
There have been much stranger endings on teevee ...
