I think there's several little snippets you could pull (and I would, had I
still be the lunatic carrying this book months after reading) that point
Tyrone's disappearance as something that occurred. um. within the reality
humans can witness.
I always thought of his removal from the text, the Zone and the world as
both real and caused by his ability to now influence his temporal bandwidth
and become absent of density.

I have a fairly complex (and likely crackpot) idea about Imipolex G that
I've
presented here before, but not in some time. I'll dig it out. I don't
think
it was black -- I think there is evidence in the text that it would be
white,
initially, moving toward transparency. In any case my theory in short is
that Slothrop had Imipolex G implanted in his penis when he was Baby Tyrone
and
that it, over time, began to replace his cells, eventually rendereing him
invisible. I don't think his disappearance from the novel is only
metaphorical.
I'll dig up the passages and post.
