Yes, I think Pynchon's characters are great fun. There not quite  
people but that OK.

As I admitted to Tore a second ago,  I can't condemn Webb.  I enjoy  
watching people  do their thing. So long as they  do it well.

I was a great fan of the Lew Archer stories. Think I read them all.
