If I understand you, the latter is what I call scientism, more or less the
way Eddins uses the term in "Orphic Contra Gnostic": the Pointsman-Pokler
perversion, valorizing science as a closed system instead of an open,
self-challenging and self-correcting one. To have Kit poised on the edge of
it is in keeping with the sharp edges of the bargain coming up.
