I recall some sort of Bobby London collection---late 70's, early
80's---with a reviewer's pull-quote on the cover blaring "Neo-Herriman"
and Dirty Duck responding with : "Neo-Anderthal". Here's some more
freeky links to the Doctor of Duckology:

RARE Original POPEYE daily comic strip by
BOBBY LONDON, 5/19/86 (paper size: 13 1/8"
x 4 1/4") Pen and ink. Paper is solid and untorn.
This RARE strip features Popeye and Swee’Pea.
Signed by BOBBY LONDON. FROM THE BOBBY
LONDON COLLECTION. This RARE original is
from the second month of London’s production
on “Popeye”. (Underground cartooning great
Bobby London has asked me to sell selected
originals.) HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHT—From
April, 1986 to August, 1992, the “Popeye” daily
comic strip was written and drawn by Bobby
London, who in his earlier, "underground" days,
created “Merton of the Movement” and “Dirty
Duck” — the latter of which found a mainstream
outlet in “National Lampoon” and is still running
in “Playboy”. A sequence about a doll, which
London used as a metaphor for abortion,
brought his stint on the strip to an abrupt end.
Readers gave little or no evidence of serious
objection; the syndicate’s licensing department
wasn’t happy about London’s contemporary
approach to the strip, giving that as its reason
for firing him.
