                  Paul Mackin:
So o o o , it really seems a little bit silly to think anyone
would find it worthwhile pointing out a few obvious
                   Bush jokes.

The point was to provide a context---the deeper meaning---of a
few (perhaps not so obvious) Bush jokes. It's not that, as
Governor of Jehsimon that he was noted as an "executioneer",
it's that in the modern American historical context "The
Governor"---that is to say George W.---is "The Executioneer."
He has an otherwise unprecedented record for execution
in America in the modern era. That's the real point of
"The Governor of Jeshimon."

                   Paul Mackin:
But what's unbelievable to my way of thinking the idea
that a talent like Pynchon's would spend ten years
writing a thousand page primer for political novices
on the evils and problems of capitalism. Moreover,
if he'd actually wanted to do such a thing, he could
have made the problems and evils a lot worse than
                   their comic representation in AtD.

Try to think of it as a celebration of Anarchism, not "a thousand
page primer for political novices on the evils and problems of
capitalism." If Pynchon is a Marxist, it's mostly Groucho.
Pynchon's obvious fascination with Anarchism obviously
encompasses its comic aspects as well as its political aspects.
