Another classic example of strange pre-photographic
scientific illustration commissioned by this Dutch
apothecary at a time when collecting, identification,
and classification were all the rage. Deranged
evolutionary thinking would be inevitable. I imagine
early experimental or recreational drug use by this
Amsterdam pharmacist might explain why several
mythical creatures were also included...
